The Futur's Finds #32

Making ‘me’ time, Thanksgiving prep, and Wes Anderson in real life.

Happy Futur’s Finds day, everyone!

The Thanksgiving holiday is right around the corner, and although we’re celebrating a bit differently this year, we’re feeling super grateful for the tiny silver linings this wild year has brought us.

This week, we’ve got some Thanksgiving recipes for you to try, whether you’re celebrating or not (because mashed potatoes = everything), new shows to binge, and a perfectly appropriate excuse to carve out some ‘me’ time whenever you need it.

If you missed our last email, catch up on last week’s list here.

Enjoy this week’s list! And if you’re celebrating Thanksgiving next week, Happy Early Turkey (or Tofurkey) Day to you!

Mockups of Black Friday deal drops from The Futur.

Get a head start on Black Friday

Books of the week

  • Accidentally Wes Anderson by Wally Koval - Watching a Wes Anderson film is probably the most aesthetically pleasing activity you can do. The second most aesthetically pleasing activity you can do is flip through Accidentally Wes Anderson, a book filled with stunning photographs of real-life places that look straight out of the films, presented with fascinating human stories behind each façade.
  • Uncharted: How to Navigate the Future by Margaret Heffernan - Former CEO and popular TED speaker Margaret Heffernan challenges us to mine our own creativity and humanity to create the futures we want and can believe in in this eye-opening book.

Meals to make

It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without the classic dishes that force us to whip out our Thanksgiving pants. If you’re cooking this year, give these recipes a try, no matter how many people you have at the table:

Articles to read

  • Before you get started on any holiday shopping, look for ways to help your local community and small business owners. Check out this guide from Well+Good to support small businesses this coming holiday season.
  • This year, we’ve had to spend more time apart than we’re usually comfortable with. We are a naturally social species, after all. But research has shown that dedicating some time alone can actually be pretty beneficial. Check out this article on why you should carve out some ‘me’ time, especially now.

Still shot of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer from The Crown, season 4 on Netflix.

What to watch

  • The Crown follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times. With the latest season released last weekend, the series visits the end of the 1970s and early 80s as Britain’s first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and Lady Diana Spencer, come into the picture for the Royal family and the world.
  • A group of hungry, young graduates are competing for a limited number of permanent positions at a leading bank in London, while being thrown head-first into the exhilarating world of international finance. Watch Industry on HBO Max.

And finally, a quote to keep in mind throughout the week

“Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” — Eckhart Tolle
